Blood Pressure Drugs Linked to Protection Against Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer
comment: This study from the Veterans' Hospitals looked at two groups of patients at increased risk of basal cell and squamous cell skin cancers. The study reported a lower incidence of these non-melanoma skin cancers in the group taking ACE inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers. This is a preliminary finding and is not intended to recommend these blood pressure drugs for skin cancer prevention.Source reference: Journal of the National Cancer Institute

Modest Daily Dark Chocolate intake may somewhat improve blood pressure and cholesterolRegular consumption of the Plant sterol-(PS) containing chocolate bar resulted
in reductions of 2.0 and 5.3% in serum total and LDL cholesterol
(
P < 0.05), respectively. Consumption of Cocoa flavenoids (CF) also reduced
systolic blood pressure at 8 wk (–5.8 mm Hg;
P < 0.05).
Results indicate that regular consumption of chocolate bars
containing PS and CF as part of a low-fat diet may support cardiovascular
health by lowering cholesterol and improving blood pressure.
